SHOWCASE

I am pleased to introduce the band

CURBside

In my journey, I'm always in search of inspiration, I have come to know three really special people.  They have come together and formed a band.  The band CURBside currently has a CD out with eleven of their own songs on it.  Jim Herbert sings lead vocals, rythum guitar, and piano, Drew Schultz plays lead guitar, and sings vocals, and Brent Nohl plays the cello.

The guys came together when Jim and Drew met in a Frat house on campus at Bradley University in 2003.  They played together for themselves, and goofed around.  The pair liked their sound together, but thought maybe they needed just a bit more of something.  That's when they brought Brent into the fold.  Jim said he got the chills immediately when Brent played, the sound was great.  They have been playing clubs seriously since 2004 and have been in a major Battle of the Bands, that was put on by several big name sponsors such as the radio station WXRT.  They did really well and were only steps away from the Double-Door competition, which would have led them to the final international competition!

They have a very unique sound.  The cello adds a level of depth to the music.  It is if it is speaking to you!  It is almost hypnotic!   Taking that cello and coupling it with the great acoustic guitar playing, and very strong melodic vocals and the sound of the music is full and rich.  Jim is the primary song writer and the lyrics have a cutting edge to them.  They are heartfelt and even taken from the inspiration of dreams.   I feel that this band will go far!  Please support this band.  Please get out and see a show!   See the web-site below, and the e-mail site as well.  You can even purchase the band's new CD called  Somewhere to nowhere.

WONDER WOMAN

****We are lucky when we meet those who travel on roads less traveled....****

I   I enjoy meeting people who are vibrant, realistic, full of passion, and can think way outside the box.  I come to think of this person  in terms of wonderwoman, she embodies all of the above and so much more. I'd like to call her friend. Her name is Christine Jaksy; she is a survivor, and a creative inventor of self.  Here is just a bit about her………..

Ms Jaksy was born and raised right here in Chicago and went on to a woman's basketball scholarship to DePaul University. Here she set many women’s basketball records.

Being athletic, beautiful, and having the glamorous stature, Chris was scooped up by the modeling and acting world. She forged a wonderful career and by the 1980’s, she was living in New York and Europe. And by 1986, she was in Los Angeles appearing in foreign films. By 1991, however, she was struck with illness. In the height of a lucrative modeling career and promising film and T.V. spots, she was diagnosed with Lupus. For the next five years she lay bedridden and incapacitated.  During that time everything Chris worked so hard for was gone. Racked with pain and a shell of herself, her head-strong ways and spirituality lifted her to a place of reinvention.

Soon Chris was not only writing but publishing stories in many major mainstream magazines. She is impressive with her artistic vision and has become a beautiful web/graphic designer. Her love of dogs further took her to a higher power. Where, now Chris is behind the camera using so many of the skills she learned  being on the other side of the camera, and back working in an industry that she knows and loves.

Chris Jaksy never said quit! The darkest hours came and she flourished.

She wears many a hat as she continues to balance and maintain her life and her illness. That's Chris Jaksy athlete/model/actress/artist/web designer/photographer/dog lover/survivor. I'm glad to have met Chris, she continues to inspire me to continue to take the next step myself! I'm glad she's a dreamer like me!

Godspeed!

Story Telling

PASSING ON GREAT STORIES

http://barefoot-storyteller.com

I am so inspired by people who want to "pay it forward", I am inspired by people who come up with great concepts and ideas. I absolutely love when the passing of ideas involves changing children's lives in the long-run.  The Barefoot Storyteller does just this.  Based out of her home, this 39 year old mom has deversified herself by homeschooling children and yoga classes in the home, maintaining a blog or two, author of a series of books, and finally workshops, classes, parties, and even book exchanges!  Her concepts and ideas create an atmosphere of emotional and intellectual development. Reading stories infused with art, movement and  music. She travels around instilling the love of stories to children, passing on the passion for stories and book reading. Going beyond storytelling, children use self expression by doing art projects, and movement is art in yoga. Older children  from ages 12-16 years old can attend the five day workshop, upon completion of this five day workshop they will build up their skills so that those kids can go back out into the community and bring literacy to other children.

I hope that you will visit her web-site, and be as inspired as I was and perhaps you can contact her, and start your own storytelling network too !

Now that's paying it forward!
