Miracle Journey

September 2008

Love comes to a two year old by way of adoptive parents in America. A little boy named Phung Thien Nhan was born of a teenage mother in a central Vietnam village. She then abandoned the little bundle. It had been some 72 hours after the boy was born and then abandoned, that several forest villagers stumbled upon the baby. The Baby was alive! The villagers quick thinking got the baby to the area doctor. Being that the teenage mother left this baby in the deep forest, Phung Thien was mauled by animals!  Doctors were forced to remove his right leg but were able to save his life. Buddhist monks were so happy they named him. Phung Thien means "angelic child".

The little baby was then returned to the grandparents of the child. (villagers found out the teenager who birthed the child). Soon this baby was living in unfit conditions because the family was so poor. The journalist who found the baby in this condition was so worried that a 5 month battle ensued to adopt Phung Thien. Eventually they were successful in adopting him. The jounalist and her husband became very popular in Vietnam for adopting him. The baby is somewhat of a celebrity in Vietnam. The adoptive parents have taken him to RIC of Chicago where he has successfully been fitted for a prostheic leg. He also had several surgeries to his genitalia as the animals also mauled it!

He nearly died without having lived! He was resuced twice and is adpoted by two wonderful people that could not leave him! He was given an angel name, and is still a celebrity in Vietnam.

The Heart of  A Marine

This is the story that should humble us all.  This is the story of Ricky Martinez, 22 yrs.old. Ricky Martinez was a Marine who served two terms of service in Iraq.  He had dreams of one day becoming a Chicago Police Officer, and had applied. Ricky was home for five months, when he attended a Cubs game.  Upon leaving the game he was shot on the street! Apparently he was mistaken by a gang member who thought he was a rival gang member. This was a tragedy and was almost too much to bear for the close-knit Martinez family. Ricky was an organ donor. His family thought they would abide by their sons wishes and donated his heart. It was sad, that this boy who had given up so much and whose life was already on the line, comes home to enjoy his favorite past-time, and was gunned down ruthlessly. Our hearts were full with greif as the story unfolded in the news.

Now two years later, Ricky Martinez is in the news again. The Marine that had given so much was now alive in a way.  Brian Troy 41 yrs. old lived his life with irregular heartbeat and enlarged heart. He has a genetic heart defect and had just come out of a thirty day coma. He was at the top of the list to receive a heart transplant. His health was deteriorating fast. Brian Troy received the call from his hospital that he was scheduled to receive a heart. He and his family in great joy!

After some doing, the Troy family found out where the heart came from. It was Ricky Martinez, the Marine. Mr. Troy wanted to meet the Martinez family in person to share his sympathy and gratitude. The loss felt by the Martinez family was great and hurt deeply as they missed their son and they agreed.  The profound gift of life given to another by his heart donation continues the family sense of pride and loving. Now Mr. Troy campaigns for organ donation in Illinois. He is proud to have the heart of the fierce Marine that selflessly gave over and over his life so that he may have his own.

Thank you to the Martinez family and Ricky Martinez and thank you to Brian Troy who recognized that he had a miracle happen for him!

Miracles do happen!

PICKED UP BY THE HAND OF GOD

Last week set the scene for unstable weather conditions throughout the United States.  While some states were receiving quite a bit of  warmth,rain and  flooding, still other states were  getting hard hit with snow.  It proved hard for everyone to bear the conditions as the rainfall and snows were coming in undualting waves. The state of Tennesee, and just north of Nashville, was hard hit by band of tornadoes that ripped through several counties all at once.  Bearing down on the small communities and causing massive destruction everywhere each of them  touched down.   As the tornadoes stopped, quickly firefighters and volunteers set out to observe, assess, and aid in any way they could.  On his mission, firefighter David Harmon, was looking for surviviors by flashlight. It was still dark and one o'clock in the morning, when rescuer Harmon, spied a doll on the ground, and reflected immediately on his own children, that they  had dolls like that. As he spoke to the other firefighters near him, he heard a distant whimper and realized that it was the sound emiting from the doll. He picked it up instinctively and found it was 11 month old Kyson Stowell!  A doll of a boy found in the dark, cold, hungry,wet and all by himself.  The baby boy was located among rubble,and debris and it appeared that the tiny little one was picked up and hurled about 100 yards away from his home which he lived with his mother and father. He sustained only cuts, bruises and scratches. But by Wednesday of this past week the death count from the band of tornadoes that ripped through this town and several surrounding towns was fifty nine (59)!  By some miracle this child was plucked up and set down by an angel, or the hand of god even. Although sadly, it was announced that his mother, was not so lucky. She did not make it through the storm. Baby Kyson is surrounded by his dad and extended family.  The small town of Castalian Springs has been brought together now by this tragedy.  The townspeople have come together and are supporting one and other and are already trying to rebuild.

That's a miracle!

THE FLIGHT OF LIFE

On Febrary 6, 2008, in Ludwigshafen Germany  a fire began to engulf an apartment building.  The fire was very smokey and was also spiking red, hot flames. People began to congragate in front of the apartment building, as the fire rescuers were on their way.  Meanwhile, police were there as first responders on the scene.  Suddenly, lots of screaming ensued and mass confusion began. People began screaming out of the windows.  In minutes the smoke began to bilow making things difficult for the families in the building.  When Kamil Kaplan appeared with a baby in his hands, a woman was behind him screaming No! No! Then the man  looked down upon the policeman at the scene, and then threw the little baby into the waiting, and open arms of that cop below him!  He was safe!

Kamil Kaplan was the uncle of the little boy, whose name is Onur Celar and he is only nine months old.  The babys' uncle felt terrible and he did have to rip the baby out of the arms of the mother who was Mr. Kaplan's sister.  But he felt safe that the baby would be okay. The parents also survived, but very sadly Onur's brother, Ilvas did pass away from smoke inhalation. Along with him eight other people perished in the fire, and five of those were children.

Thank goodness for the policeman being in the right spot at the right time, and the uncle who galliantly let little Onur go. Without those quick moves, at the right time the outcome could've been very different.  I think that is a miracle!

Have you ever wondered where miracles come from? Have you ever seen one yourself? Do they come today or generations ago? Have you ever been

in a crownd of strangers, and felt you were not alone? Have you ever been down so low, you felt you had nowhere to go?Have you ever felt you had

no one to rely on? Where does a miracle come from?

They are in the clouds overhead that pass by,they are on the ground,but our eyes do not see them. They touch us daily and yet we don't see them.

THEY ARE IN ALL THAT WE ARE AND ALL THAT WE WILL BE. They are in the heart & Soul of you and me. ALL THAT IS HERE IS A

MIRACLE THAT HAS BEEN. In the sounds of our childs first cry, the birds soaring in the sky, and in the soft breeze of angel wings. For we are never

alone. In our many talents,the laughter and tear that flow, in friendships that have come our way.Our family circle continues to grow throughout
